The Prince Of Egypt Is Indeed A Masterpeice

(Moses comes to know).

We all know the story of Moses, the boy who was meant to be killed by the order of a tyrant king, Pharaoh. Fearing that the growing population of the Israelites would one day outnumber and overpower his people, Pharaoh sought to control them—keeping the men as laborers and ordering the killing of the new generation.

He was hidden by his Mother for 3 months, the bible actually says she hid him because she found him beautifull. When she can no longer hid him she gives him up to fate than see him be killed by the Egyptians. By chance the river leads him to Pharoah’s daughter who welcomes this baby brought to her while she bathed. They changed some of the things from the bible narration. The movie starts with such a beautiful and emotional scene of The People Suffering and then Moses’s Mother Jochebed’s scene.

He not only survived the death that took many others but he got to feed on his mothers breast and grew in a palace considered as a prince.

Moses comes to know

The bible doesn’t have an account on how he got to know his origins.

(Moses comes to know). The movie shows this very beautifully.

He understands he isn’t actually a prince of Egypt. The suffering of the people he used to despise now brought him pain. He kills a soldier who was beating a hebrew person.

When Pharaoh heard about this matter, he tried to kill Moses. They didn’t show this part in the movie but out of guilt and fear Moses fled.

Moses’ Exile

If any one was under identity crisis it was Moses. He fleds. Who was he actually? Why was he fortunate to not die all those years ago? Why did he kill the Egyptian? Isn’t his alliegnece to Egypt? Why did he try to protect that Hebrew person? I think he thought of all of these questions and more in his wandering in the desert. He might have been in an existential crisis. He was lost. The place he considered to be his home is not his anymore and still he never belonged there. Who was he then? What was he here?

But Moses fled from the presence of Pharaoh and settled in the land of Midian, and he sat down by a well. Exodus 2:15b

If a man lose ev’rything he owns Has he truly lost his worth? Or is it the beginning Of a new and brighter birth? So how do you measure the worth of a man? In wealth or strength or size? In how much he gained or how much he gave? The answer will come The answer will come to him who tries

Look Through Heaven’s Eye

By chance he finds himself a desert people called Medianites who accepted him. He gets along with an old Wise Man the Priest of the Midianties called:- Jethro.

To look at his life through Heaven’s eyes He teaches him wise things. He taught him not to understand his identity through what people say of him not even what he thought of himself but through Heaven’s Eye.

to one lost sheep a shepherd boy is greater than the richest king

He stay there shows him how to be a leader, how to lead sheep humbling beginning but it was an important task, to protect and guide each one.

His time as a shepherd prepares him to what he is going to be next. It was like his training ground.

(Zipporah looking at Moses so weirdly). (Zipporah and Moses, If a lady looks at you like this this is the ultimate sign she likes you)

Moses and Jethro get along so well Jethro gives him his daughter Zipporah in marriage.

Listen to this song when you run low on self-esteem. It will remind you to see yourself in the right way.

Moses Meets God

He was living a very normal life, settled down, has a wife, nice job, his past didn’t bother anymore. He was just chilling and then he meets God.

This is absolutely a wonderful scene. Beautiful.

(Moses was getting taken care of). He was chosen by I AM. The God of his ancestors. His story just got a bit interesting. God commissions him to be his messenger to tell Pharaoh ‘To let His People Go’.

Now it came about in the course of those many days that the king of Egypt died. And the sons of Israel groaned because of the bondage, and they cried out; and their cry for help because of their bondage ascended to God. 24 So God heard their groaning; and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 25 And God saw the sons of Israel, and God took notice of them. Exodus 2:23

A commission of a life time

Moses now understands he is a prophet. A prophet of I AM. He knows his purpose, it all made sense now, God got him here and he didn’t die then because of this. God wanted a prophet to free his people.

So he goes and confronts Ramses. Pharaoh is not willing to let them go.

The Plagues

This is a really great scene. The plague scene shows the tension between Moses and Ramses. In order the plagues were:- Water turned to blood, frogs, lice, flies, pestilence on Livestock, boils, hail, locusts, darkness and Death of the Firstborn.

The Death of Pharaos Son

Sadly Pharao doesn’t give in till the last plague. And it came at a great loss.

(Ramses son dies).

Exodus

The people after years of slavery are finally free. Jubille. Joy. Freedom.

The Sea, Israel and Pharao’s Army

It didn’t Last Long. Well now they are going to die. The Read Sea before them Pharaoh’s furious army behind them they were doomed to death.

No God wasn’t going to let them die like that. He was going to show his outstretched arm and deliver them from this Army. A Fire hinders the army from reaching the people and before them…

The Sea Parts

Moses outstretches his Staff and The Sea parts way. Wall of water standing to let them pass safely on dry land.

Moses with the 10 Commandements

Moses now knows who he is. He is a prophet of God. The leader who is responsible to give them God’s law. And as he brings the 10 commandments, he was about to speak and what the heck the people are now worshiping a calf idol, what ….(well the movie ends before that lol)

Reflection

Moses before Sheep Moses before Israel

A throw back to Moses standing before his Sheep and The Israelites. It was quite similar. See God was preparing him for greater things.

This movie brings the bible story to life portrays everything to the finest detail and makes you feel sad, angry, lost and happy as the characters did.

The animation, the statues and palaces of Egypt all made so grand and glorious, the miracle and plague scene absolutely wonderful, and the Songs. The tension inside Moses when he was trying to find himself, the conflict between Moses and Ramses feeling so real (at times I felt sad for Ramses he was trying to not be a weak link), the songs Deliver Us and Through Heaven’s Eyes (This one won an oscar) and just the overall beauty of the scenes when all these things are brought together does make you say This movie is a masterpiece.

The crazy part is this movie is older than me. It was made in 1998. Watch its history here. Its pretty interesting.

Lessons

Some of the things I took away after watching this movie were.

  • Feeling lost is not so bad; wandering in the desert will lead you to find God and discover who He says you are. God promised to talk to Israel by taking her to the desert. Hosea 2:14. Lowly places can actually be beneficial— they serve as a means of preparing you for great work.

  • Don’t try to define yourself apart from God’s definition of you. Like Jethro said, look at yourself and your situation through Heaven’s eyes.

  • Obey God. Don’t fight against Him or oppose Him—you won’t win

  • Ferenjoch lela tarik wuste nachew. Bro they made this in 1998. I can’t help but compare my country to them and be disappointed. Please we need to create masterpieces like this. At least try to get at a level that is better than where we are now.(this one is more of an observation)

Prologue

If you haven’t watched the whole thing what are you doing here? Go watch it. And if you have, savor the story of Moses with this lovely song by Jimmy Clifton called you guessed it Moses.

I have and am still watching edits on YouTube. They are pretty cool honestly. This blog is putting these links in one place so I can turn back and appreciate it in the future. Thanks for reading.

See you on the next one.
